I try to capture the mystical and interesting ways we all interact with nature. I love the beach, the pool, sand and water. My ocean and pool paintings are mostly figurative. Beautiful figures clad in colorful attire highlighted by the sun are fascinating to me. People of all ages and all places seem to congregate on the world’s beaches. The presence of the water is uplifting. Because I live inland, I love to experience the different moods of the ocean. Reflections dance on the water; the sounds of the waves are both calming and fierce–there is another worldly feeling that emerges. I also love watching people enjoying beach, pool and water activities of all kinds. The atmospheric influences around water are hypnotic. The colors and scenic landscapes at all different times of the day and night are exotic and beautiful. The psychological responses of the people near water are captivating… they seem to delight in their surroundings and I usually can sense that they are feeling and experiencing a combination of playful activity, sun bathing or worshipping, romance, serenity or just joyful relaxation. Brush and paint are the tools permit me to try to capture these moods. (Jill Nassau, St. Louis, Missouri)
